Abstract EN:

This thesis search for the meaning of photographic expression in regional daily newspapers through the study of the main editions of three regional dailies: "sud-ouest" (bordeaux), "la voix du nord" (lille) and "ouest-france" (rennes), between 1950 and 1988. Once observed the development of the use of pictures after the change of the printing technqiue, this work emphasizes the importance of the part played by photo in the way t0 make up into pages to organize the news into a hierarchy. Examining the evolution of the content of newspapers (both throughout time for a particular edition and at the same times for each of three editions), it tires to stress the similarities and the peculiarities of dailies, believing that the personality of newspapers expresses itself rather into the local pages, while they tend to an increasing homogenization of the choice of subjects illustrations at national and international level. Stressed at last thanks to semiotic and semiologic studies, this work tries to uncover the values expressed by thez regional daily press with the passing of the years through the study of a shared subject : the national holiday of the 24 ,july from 1950 to 1988.
