The dialectical relation between culture and the collective memory can be assessed by the means put at the disposal of society in order to preserve its knowledge and to transmit it to the future generations. The cultural memory is produced by the memotchnical structures related to the development of communication media. From this reasoning, we've proved that the mechanism of communication pass through three stages and this by referring to maghrebin culture : the tradition stage, the education stage and the mass media stage. All these have conveyed a pattern of knowledge. In fact, the traditional society has established spaces of communication managed by orality, the educational society has been based on writing in order to transmit its knowledge and, finally, the audio-visual society uses mass media to broadcast its messages and preserve them. By dividing the history of cultural communication in the maghreb into three periods, we've been able to draw a problematic which intends to be universal and which has as motto : culture is what remains.

La relation dialectique qui existe entre la culture et la memoire collective est mesurable par les moyens mis a la disposition d'une societe pour conserver et transmettre son savoir. La memoire culturelle est secretee par des structures memotechniques en rapport avec l'evolution des moyens de communication. A partir de ce raisonnement, nous avons demontre, en nous referant a la culture maghrebine, que les mecanismes de la communication sont passes par trois etapes : la tradition, l'education et l'etape des mass media. Chacune de ces etapes a transmis un type de savoir. En effet, la societe traditionnelle a mis en place des foyers de communication geres par l'oralite, la societe educationnelle s'est appuyee sur l'ecriture pour transmettre sur savoir et, enfin, la societe audiovisuelle utilise les mass media pour diffuser et conserver ses messages. En divisant l'histoire de la communication culturelle au maghreb en trois periodes, nous avons pu degager une problematique qui se veut universelle et qui a pour devise : la culture c'est ce qui reste.
