L'espace documentaire comme espace de savoir : itinéraires singuliers et imaginaires littéraires

Documentary space, today, relates back to a plural reality, marked by the use of the concept of space, whose definition reamins many-sided. This research work focuses on documentary space as represented by the information system. This space, because it has been designed and structured implies an organization of knowledge, in other words "the spacing of knowledge". The author defines documentary space by determining its structuring elements with regard to Information and Communication Sciences and by following other complementary approaches. Technical aspects are given too much importance in the apprehension of collections by users. Librarians create partitions which users reinterpret and bypass. Documentary space is not a simple juxtaposition of objects, but a real enunication. By transposing the communicative approach to documents and thier typology, the author confronts space intentionally designed by the librarian and space apprehended by the user. In the literay texts evoked by users, the writers twist the constraint due to its organization. The image of documentary space proposed by literature intersects the imaginative representations of both librarians and users, thus allowing the notion of space to grow richer and become a real object of knowledge.

L’espace documentaire renvoie aujourd’hui à une réalité plurielle, marquée par l’utilisation du concept d’espace dont la définition reste ouverte. Nous avons centré notre recherche sur l’espace documentaire physique du système d’information. Cet univers, construit et structuré sous-entend une organisation des savoirs, c’est-à-dire des savoirs mis en espace. Nous avons défini l’espace documentaire en cernant ses éléments structurants au regard des Sciences de l’Information et de la Communication et en suivant d’autres approches complémentaires. Dans la rencontre entre ressources et usagers, les aspects techniques sont sur-valorisés. Les professionnels créent des cloisonnements que les usagers réinterprètent et contournent. L’espace documentaire n’est pas qu’une juxtaposition d’objets, mais une réelle énonciation. En transposant l’approche communicationnelle du document et sa typologie, nous avons confronté l’espace par intention élaboré par le documentaliste et l’espace par attribution construit par l’usager. Nous avons interrogé l’espace documentaire au travers des textes et images littéraires cités par les usagers, les écrivains en proposant un détournement. Croisant imaginaires des professionnels et imaginaires des usagers, l’image qu’en propose la littérature permet d’enrichir la notion d’espace documentaire pour en faire un véritable objet de savoir.
