Contribution à l'étude de la bibliologie en France : des origines à la Deuxième Guerre mondiale

The main target of this doctoral thesis is to deepen the hystory of bibliology in france as a written communication science all through a qualitative study of texts and alsow a bibliometric quantitat tive study of book's production from the beginning of the xviiith centry to the second world war. Both studies include a bibliography of bibliology in france which has been elaborated through a international research program on bibliology. Text's study reveals the existin a bibliology theory since the end of a xviiith century through the apperance of a methodical vocabulary. The theory has been developped accross the xixth century around four axis : writing sciences systems, non periodic writing history, bibliography and bibliotheconomy. The development of bibliology production allowds us to identify the mouvments which seem to go with the growth of the whole production of non periodic printintings in france. Production putting together bibliology and history, according to zoltowski and his explanation about a same working. Finally, the quantitative study and the qualitative study show that the constitution of a biblilogy theory comes after the creation of writin sciences.

L'objectif de cette these est d'approfondir l'histoire de la bibliologie en france a travers une etude qualitative des textes et une etude quantitative de la production des livres du debut xviieme siecle a la deuxieme guerre mondiale. Les deux etudes ont pour corpus une bibliographie de la bibliologie en france, que nous avons elaboree dans le cadre du programme de recherche internationale sur la bibliologie. L'etude des textes nous montre l'existence d'une theorie de la bibiologie a partir de la fin du xviiieme siecle avec l'apparition d'un vocabulaire systematise. Le long du xixeme siecle, cette theorie se developpe autour de quatre axes : les systemes et les sciences de l'ecriture, l'histoire de l'ecrit non periodique, la bibliographie et la bibliotheconomie. L'evolution de la production generale des imprimes non periodiques en france. Les fluctuations de la production semblent suivre des mouvements decennaux et interdecennaux. Les periodes de hausse de cette production se situeraiet plutot dans les periodes de stagnation economique, alors que les periodes de baisse se situeraient dans des periodes de croissance economique. Dans ce sens la bibliologie evoluerait comme l'histoire dont la theorie de zoltowski explique un fonctionnement similaire. Enfin les deux etudes qualitative et quantitative montrent qu'a la base de la constitution d'une theorie de la bibliologie il y a eu la constitution des sciences de l'ecriture.
