The present thesis work discusses the place of the violence in the imaginary Brazilian. It proposes a reading of the function of the violence in the process of construction of the social relationships in Brazil. Leaving of a perspective in the which the violence if constitue as an element of base of the social relationships between individuals and groups, deal with the symbolic images of the violence. In the first two chapters is discussed the influences that the first conflicts between the autochthonous people and the Portuguese settlers produced for the Brazilian society. In the third chapter, is the discussed the production of the conflicts of its links with the geaographic space, being demonstrated as the physical spaces is classified while rifts where the notions of good and of evil they settle down in consonance with the Brazilian imaginary universe. In that chapter, we looked for to decipher as the perception of the violence and the several denominations still elaborated in each time they are themselves same result of valued and conflicting relationships that seek to make sacred some expressions of the violence at the same time they condemn others. In the fourth chapter, it is discussed the aesthetic transformations of the violence in the Brazilian modernity. In the last chapter the relationship is discussed among the social structure, hierarchy and the production of conflicts. It tries to show that the violence constitue a type of anthropological structure of the social relationships in Brazil.

Le présent travail traite de la place la violence dans l'imaginaire brésilien. Il propose une lecture du rôle de la violence dans le processus de construction des rapports sociétaux au Brésil. En partant de la perspective selon laquelle la violence est un élément basique des rapports qu'entretiennent entre eux les individus et les groupes, on aborde les images symboliques de la violence. Dans les deux premiers chapitres, on discute des « traces » que les tous premiers rapports conflictuels entre les peuples autochtones et les envahisseurs portugais ont laissé à la société brésilienne. Dans le troisième chapitre, on aborde la production des conflits ainsi que leurs liens avec le milieu géographique, en démontrant comment les espaces physiques sont classifiés comme des interstices où le bien et le mal peuvent s'établir en consonance avec l'univers imaginaire. On tente dans ce chapitre de déchiffrer comment la perception de la violence elle-même et sa classification à une époque donnée sont toujours liées à des relations conflictuelles qui cherchent à sacraliser ou à profaner certains usages de la violence. Le quatrième chapitre touche aux transformations esthétiques de la violence dans la modernité brésilienne. Le dernier chapitre traite de la structure de la société brésilienne et de la production de rapports conflictuels. On y démontre que la violence constitue une sorte de structure anthropologique des rapports sociétaux au Brésil.
