The theme of this research is to understand and analyse the social genesis of a technical object, and more precisely, the setting up of a computerised device by the c. S. T. B. (the building trade scientific and technical centre) to facilitate access to the "technical rules" in that sector. First of all it is important to spot matters social in the technical object, to consider the technical object as the expression of social relations of which it is a material demonstration. The first part of this research has as its object ton understand the relations between trade culture and scientific and technical culture. The second part analyses the c. S. T. B. As the centre for calculation and translation that holds the central position in the process of the codification and normalisation of practices. Lastly, the third part analyses the innovation that the cd-reef turns out to be. Behind the apparently technical theme of making the rules accessible emerges the question of social order in the building trade, and even more, that of a "common world" of the building trade. Here lies the emblematic nature of the programme of the computerisation of and access to the written rules : to guarantee and secure the cohesion of this sector through the rehabilitation of scientific and technical references. Starting from the principle that shapes have an effect on meanning, the cd-rom of the written rules of the building trade is a means of the re-energising the (sense of) belonging to a "common world".

Le theme de cette recherche est de comprendre et d'analyser la genese sociale d'un objet technique, et plus precisement, la mise en place d'un dispositif informatique par le centre scientifique et technique du batiment (c. S. T. B. ) pour faciliter l'acces aux "regles techniques" de ce secteur. Il importe avant tout de reperer le social dans l'objet technique, de considerer l'objet technique en tant qu'expression des rapports sociaux dont il est lui-meme la manifestation materielle. La premiere partie de la recherche se donne comme objet la comprehension des rapports entre la culture de metier et la culture scientifique et technique (entre des logiques sociales liees a des pratiques orales dans le batiment et d'autres liees a des pratiques de codification et d'ecriture des documents scientifiques et techniques). L'analyse du c. S. T. B. Comme un centre de calcul et de traduction occupant une place centrale dans le processus de codification et de normalisation des pratiques, fait l'objet de la deuxieme partie. Enfin, la troisieme partie analyse l'innovation qu'est le cd-reef. Derriere le theme apparemment technique de l'accessibilite des regles, se profile la question de l'ordre social dans le batiment, plus encore, celle d'un "monde commun" du batiment. C'est la le caractere emblematique du projet de la problematisation des regles ecrites et de leur acces : garantir et assurer la cohesion de ce secteur a travers la rehabilitation des references scientifiques et techniques. Partant du principe que les formes ont un effet sur le sens, le cd-rom des regles ecrites du batiment represente un moyen pour redynamiser l'appartenance a un "monde commun".
