L' essor du travail intérimaire : un symptôme de changement social ?

What does the situation of temporary workers teach us about social changes? Why do companies turn to temporary work (TW)? What part do the temporary employment agencies play in this evolution? How do the temporary workers react to their situation ? The answer to these questions are drawn on statistical and biographical data as well as on an investigation and many interviews, in particular with temporary workers and employees from these agencies allowing us to establish links between private carreers and the evolution of the work system. The boom of TW is a symbol of a growing tendency for flexible and casualized labour. These changes in the job system are connected in a systemic way to the mutations of the productive system, the variation of the standards of integration and the evolution of the system of values. The TW illustrates the contradictions and the tensions within the employment system which generate a latent social crisis challenging the future of the current social change.

Qu'est-ce que la situation des intérimaires apprend sur les changements sociaux ? Pourquoi les firmes recourent-elles au travail temporaire (TT) ? Quel est le jeu des entreprises de TT dans cette évolution ? Comment les salariés en intérim vivent-ils leur situation ? À côté d'éléments statistiques et biographiques, la réponse à ces questions s'appuie sur une enquête et de nombreux entretiens notamment avec des intérimaires et des salariés des agences en reliant parcours individuels et évolution du système d'emploi. L'essor du TT est emblématique de la flexibilisation et de la précarisation de l'emploi. Ces mutations du système d'emploi sont liées de façon systémique avec les transformations du système productif, la modification des normes d'intégration, et l'évolution du système de valeurs. Le TT illustre les contradictions et les tensions que recèle le système d'emploi et qui sont génératrices d'une crise sociale latente qui pose question sur le devenir du changement social en cours.
