Many different themes are dealt with at elementary school. There is great diversity in the educational material used to socialize the child from his earliest infancy. This study analyses the family as an agent of primary socialization. In particular, the author gives due recognition to the complementarity existing between family and school and attempts to identify the ideology of the family propounded by school text books which constitute the official "legal" discourse on this subjetc. Three avenues of research are investigated both synchronically and diachronically : reading text books - whose importance as educational tools is demonstrated; educational changes and developments and finally mutations in the family since the 1960s as seen through the evolution of the "ideal-type" family proposed in the elementary school context. This study of the "model family" and its development was carried out on a comparative basis in two countries representative of european divergences : france and greece.

Grande est la variete des themes abordes a l'ecole elementaire, grande est la diversite des supports pedagogiques dont le but consiste a socialiser l'enfant des son plus jeune age. Le theme de la famille, agent de la socialisation de depart, a ete etudie et analyse au cours de ce travail. Plus precisement, en reconnaissant la complementarite qui existe entre famille et ecole, l'auteur s'efforce d'identifier l'ideologie familiale au travers du seul discours, rendu de par la loi, universellement obligatoire, celui des manuels de lecture. A travers une etude synchronique et diachronique et en operant sur trois pistes de recherche, celle des manuels de lecture - dont l'importance en tant qu'outils pedagogiques est prealablement confirmee -, celle des evolutions educatives et enfin celle des mutations familiales depuis les annees 1960, c'est l'evolution de l'"ideal - type" familial propose au sein de l'ecole elementaire qui est etudie. En outre cette etude de la "famille-modele" et son evolution, a ete menee comparativement dans deux pays representatifs des disparites europeennes, la france et la grece.
