From 1856 to 1906, the two sate teaching colleges of the province of quebec maintained a pratical training system which was centered on a training school belonging to the teaching college. From 1906 to 1969, female school teacher training was left in charge of nuns orders. Those new teaching colleges kept the dominant educational philosophy of the second half of 19th century, along with the focus on pratical training as showned by the time ammowed to it and the organization of training schools, but it turned out that the new system was quite different from the first one. This thesis addresses the economical, social, political and cultural causes of that evolution.

Un systeme de formation pratique des maitres prevalut dans les deux ecoles normales d'etat francophones au quebec de 1856 a 1906. Cette methode etait fondee sur l'utilisation intensive d'une ecole d'application annexee a l'ecole normale. A partir de 1906, la formation des institutrices fut confiee a des communautes religieuses. Ces nouvelles ecoles normales, tout en conservant le discours dominant de la deuxieme moitie du 19e siecle, sur l'importance de la formation pratique, le temps qu'on devait y consacrer et les modalites d'organisation a l'ecole d'application, mirent en place un systeme de formation pratique fort different du premier. Quelles furent les causes economiques, sociales, politiques et culturelles de ce virage? c'est a cette question que la presente these tente de repondre.
