Here is a socio-historical study on cultural exchange between differents human groups (indians belonging to various ethnic groups, portugueses, spanish men, africans) who came into contact with one another within a changing geographical area (old territory of the current uruguayan republic). This study takes into account the social patterns generated by this cultural contact and gives their true meaning to all these cultural, economic, demographic, political elements, etc. . . , which served as a basis of reflection to the successive uruguayan societies for the emergence of a sense of community.

Etude socio-historique sur l'echange culturel entre differents contingents humains (indiens divers, portuguais, espagnols, africains) qui sont entres en contact dans une region geographique assez variable (ancien territoire de l'actuelle republique de l'uruguay). On tient compte des formes sociales produites par ce contact culturel. Cette systematisation rends leur veritable valeur a tous ces elements culturels, economiques, demographiques, politiques, etc, qui ont ete le soupport d'une elaboration ideologique portee vers un sentiment de communaute.
