This work is a first step towards understanding the inhabitant-city relationship in caracas. We have conceived this research as a first exploratory "rapprochement" whose interests are centered in the structuring of a field of observation. In this sence, this thesis does not propose to demostrate anything, but only to point out some of the fragmentary, partial and incomplete aspects of the inhabitant-city relationship. In some cases we have been inclined to present the city in a physical expression, in other cases we didicated ourselves to presenting the problem of the persons who inhabit it with the intention of obtaining some characteristics features of their social identity. Similary we have tried to show some social practices that bring to light the ways in wich the inhabitants enter into a relationship with the city. The first part of thesis is dedicated to the main features of a caracas wich existed up to the decade of the thirties. In this historical presentation, it is proposed to show the novelty of new urban spaces in caracas. The second part basically contains the analysis of eleven semi-directed interviews in five areas of the city of caracas. This analysis seeks to learn the ways of relationship of the inhabitants with the "near" and "far" spaces of the city.

Ce travail est un premier pas vers la comprehension de la relation habitant-ville a caracas. Nous avons concu cette recherche comme une premiere approche exploratoire dans laquelle notre interet se porte sur la structuration d'un champ d'observation. En ce sens cette these ne cherche pas a demontrer quelque chose mais a souligner quelques aspects fragmentaires, partiels, incomplets de la relation habitant-ville. Nous nous somme parfois axes sur la presentation de la ville dans sa manifestation physique, dans son apparence la plus evidente; parfois nous nous sommes penches sur les sujets, en cherchant a saisir quelques traits de leur identite sociale. Nous avons egalement essaye de montrer quelques pratiques sociales mettant en lumiere les facons dont les habitants entrent en relation avec les espaces de la ville. La premiere partie de cette these presente les principales caracteristiques de la ville de caracas jusqu'aux annees trente. Il y a dans cette presentation historique l'intention de montrer la nouveaute de l'espace urbain de caracas. La deuxieme partie comprend principalement l'analyse des onze entretiens semi-directifs qui ont ete realises dans cinq parties de la ville de caracas. Cette analyse cherche de definir la facon selon laquelle les habitants se relatent avec les espaces "proches" et "lointains" de la ville.
