Our aim is to study the capitalist production in the coastal plain of south lfbanon which spreads over 60 km and includes 22 lands constituencies. Thus, initially, our approach consisted in identifying the determining element of this production , among the three following components : - the type of "ineffective " capital invested in agriculture. - the labor force, cheap and non syndicated foreign workfrs. - the non intervention of the state in the agricultral sector. Our hypothesis is that the absence of a state agricultural policy led the holders of capital to choose low risk, short term investments. The first part of our work deals with the socio-economical evolution of lebanon and south lebanon. In the second part, entitled " capitalist penetration and tenant farming - survev results", we have conducted a wide-scale field survey in order to build a classifi cation system for farmers and sources of funds. The third part of our study refers to the position of the state and the impacts of the civil war.

Notre but est d'etudier la production capitaliste dans la plaine cotiere au liban notre but est d'etudier la production capitaliste dans la plaine cotiere au liban sud qui s'etend sur 60 km et embrasse 22 circonscriptions foncieres. Ainsi au depart notre problematique etait d'identifier l'element determinant de ette production capitaliste parmi les trois composantfs suivantfs : - la nature du capital "handicape" investi dans l'agriculture - la force de travail, representee par une main d'oeuvre entragere sous payee et non syndiquee. - la non intervention de l'etat dans le secteur agricole. Nothe hypothfse est la suivante : l'absence d'une politique agricole de l'etat a conduit les detenifurs des capitaux vers une exploitation prudente et a court terme. La premiere partie de notre travail traite l'evolution socio-economique du liban et du liban sud. Dans la deuxieme partie que nous intitulons" penetration capitaliste et fermageresultats d'enquete", nous avons meme une grande enquete sur le terrain pour faire une classification des fermiers et des sources des capitaux. La troisieme partie de notre etude aborde le role de l'etat et l'influence de la guerre civile.
