This thesis on "theatre in chile" is separated in three complementary volumes with a total of 875 pages. The firts volume, "traces and paths" is an introduction to the "genesis" of the theatre in chile, its establish ment and its changes as an artistic and cultural practive within chilean society. This volume is divided into three important areas of reearch : "the heroic world", in which are considered the previopus forms of plays based on the theme of "chile and chilenas" in spanish dramatic art during the golden century. "chile, a fraway province of the empire", wich look at the theatre in chile during the colonial period (16-19 centuries) independence an national dramatic art", which traces the activities of the theatre in a free chile from the beginning of the twenthied century up until 1973. "traces and paths" gives an overall view of the historical making of the theatre in chile from its beginning to the year 1973. The second volume, "the aleph company, archaeology of a dream", presents the creative development of the aleph company, firts set up in 1966 in chile and the again in exil in france in 1976. The basic features of the "alephean" creation are considered : collective creation, oscar castro's dramatic art, theatre des gens et des metiers.

Cette these sur le "theatre au chili" se decompose en trois volumes complementaires qui totalisent 875 pages. Le premier volume, traces et trajectoires" (277p) constitue une premiere approche a la "genese" du theatre au chili, de son implantation et de sa mobilite en tant que pratique artistique et culturelle au sein de la societe chilienne. Cette partie se structure en trois grandes zones de recherche : 1) le monde heroique, ou l'on examine les premieres formes de representation dramatique ayant comme sujet et ou scenario "le chili et les chiliens" dans la dramaturgie espagnole du siecle d'or. 2) chili, une lointaine province de l'empire, ou l'on examine la pratique theatrale au chili pendant sa periode coloniale (16eme-19eme s) 3) independance et dramaturgie nationale, ou l'on examine la pratique theatrale dans le chili independant depuis les premieres decennies du 19eme siecle jusqu'a l'annee 1973. "traces et trajectoires" constitue ainsi une vision generale de la pratique et de la creation theatrale au chili depuis son origine jusqu'a 1973. Le volume 2, "theatre aleph, archeologie d'un reve" (377 p) propose le suivi de l'itineraire creatif de la troupe aleph, fondee en 1966 au chili et recree en exil en france en 1976.
