This historical study on the development of ethology offers information on three points. First, the autor describes loren'z early theoretical constructs and shows the influence of transformations in nazi science policy. Second, the autor explores the role played both by french and by british scientists to internationalize ethology. British scientists started transnational collaboration withg american and european scientists as early as 1948, giving opportunities to both tinbergen and lorenz to pursue their pre-war research. French scientists refused to implement such collaboration. Third, the autor shows how lorenz's actions during the third reich and his conservative philosophical writings affected the development of ethology in france and britain.

Cette these sur l'histoire de l'ethologie traite de trois problemes majeurs. Tout d'abord, l'autuer a analyse les premieres constructions de theoriques de lorenz et a pu montrer l'influence des transformations de la politique scientifique nazie. Ensuite, l'auteur a decrit le role des scientifiques britanniques et francais dans l'internationalisation de la discipline. Les premiers ont entame des collaborations transnationales avec les scienctifiques americains et europeens des 1948. Les scientifiques francais refuseront de prendre de telles dispositions. Enfin, l'auteur a evalue comment les actions de lorenz durant le troisieme reich, ainsi que ses ecrits philosophiques conservateurs, ont affecte le developpement de la discipline en grande-bretagne et en france.
