The aim of this thesis is to analyse the motivational process (contents and the social and psychological motivation mecanism) leading to decision making when placed befoire several alternatives. Participation and non-participation in quality actions in french companys provide the base for research and a validation of the theoretical and methodological approach. To this effect we use vroom's valence-instrumentality-expectancy (vi. E) model (1964) around which we develop the controversial aspects and to which we bring answers. Two aspects of motivation are integrated in the v. I. E model : intrinsic motivation versus extrinsic motivation, and variables known as additive variables and situational variables. The additive variables are measured with the help of a questionnaire (manifest behaviour at the workplace) and using an instrument which measures the affective aspects of work. The situational variables are bult from the conditions offering participation : social pressure and free choice. The expectation component (e) is made in terms of self conception, instrumentality in terms of perception that the probability that commitment (or non-commitment) in "quality actions" can lead to twenty outcomes, valence is built in terms of importance versus manifest behaviour befor twenty outcomes.

Abstract FR:

L'objectif de cette these est d'analyser le processus motivationnel (contenu et mecanisme psychologique et social de la motivation) conduisant a la prise de decision face a plusieurs alternatives. La paticipation et la non-participation aux actions qualite dans l'entreprise francaise constituent le terrain de recherche et de validation de l'approche theorique et methodologique. A cet effet nous utilisons le modele de l'expectation-valence-insturmentalite (v. I. E) de vrrom (1964), dont nous developpons les points de controverse et auxquels nous apportons des issues. Nous integrons au modele v. I. E deux aspects de la motivation : motivation intrinseque versus extrinseque, des variables dites additives et des variables situationnelles. Les variables additives sont mesurees par un questionnaire de comportements manifestes au travail (q. C. M. T) et par un instrument de mesure des dimendsions affectives de travail. Les variables situationnelles sont construites a partir des conditions d'offre de participation : pression sociale et libre choix. La composante expectation (e) est construite en terme de conception de soi, l'instrumentalite (i) en terme de perception de probabilite que l'engagement ou non dans les actions qualite mene a vingt consequences, et la valence est construite en terme d'importance versus comportements manfifests vis-a-vis de vingt consequences.
