It is with the effects of situation and interaction in mind that the research for this thesis was undertaken. The approach is at the crossroads between psychology and sociology. This, in order to analyze the different forms of expression of identity of "social actors" in various situations of comparisons to groups better placed in society at large. The data is organized into two main direction , one subcultural and the other hetero-cultural. The former concerns the meeting of the sexes in french culture and its' consequences ont the expression of identity in women. The latter examines the way north africans present their group when facing the french. Three aims were simulteneously followed. To point the effects of the conditions of expression on the variations in the elaborations of social identity. To test the hypothesis of the coherence of identity of a person by confronting the different levels of answers obtainde. And to develop arguments in favour of a cultural psychology, having shown the shortcomings of a model of identity built on social inequality.

C'est dans une perspective situationniste et interactionniste qu'a ete entreprise cette recherche de these, qui pretendait se situer a l'articulation du psychologique et du sociologique pour analyser les parades identitaires chez des acteurs sociaux places dans diverses situations de comparaison avec une population mieux placee dans la societe elargie. Le corpus des observations s'organise selon deux axes - l'un est sub-culturel : il concerne la rencontre des sexes en culture francaise et ses consequences sur les positionnements identitaires des femmes; l'autre est hetero-culturel et s'interesse a la maniere dont les maghrebins presentent leur groupe d'appartenance face aux francais- et trois objectifs furent simultanement poursuivis : reperer les effets des conditions d'expression sur la variation des produits identitaires provoques ; mettre a l'epreuve l'hypothese de coherence identitaire chez les individus, en confrontant les differents niveaux de reponses observees ; developper les arguments en faveur d'une psychologie culturelle, apres avoir montre la non pertinence d'un modele de l'identite fonde sur la notion d'inegalite sociale.
