Le traitement statistique des données en psychologie et son enseignement : de l'ère des tables à l'ère informatique

This work deals with how the development of computer tools has affected statistical data processing in spychology and its teaching. Following the examination of the basic question, "what is statistics ?", natural statistical procedures are analysed in an attempt to understand the difficulties encountered in the acquisition of statistics as a discipline, and to establish support for a teaching method. We also consider the discrepancy between mastery of the necessary calculation procedures and genuine understanding of the underlying concepts, particularly pertaining to the mean. The widespread use of computer software has paved new roads for statistics as a conceptual field, and has modified the objectives of stat8istics teaching. It is shown here, that new inferential procedures which are conceptually simpler than the traditional ones are now available. The study of the difficulties encountered in both the application and teaching of data analysis techniques led us to design and develop ds3, a software package for the statistical processing of data. It is shown here that this system can be profitably used in a learning environment. Finally, the features of future generations of computer systems for statistical processing are discussed in the light of upcoming developments of computer tools.

L'objectif a ete d'analyser les effets du developpement des outils informatiques sur le traitement statistique des donnees en psychologie et son enseignement. Apres l7examen d'une question prealable : "qu'est-ce que la statistique ?" nous analysons les "procedures statistiques naturelles" afin de comprendre les difficultes rencontrees lors de l'appropriation de la statistique et afin d'etayer un enseignement. Nous analysons egalement les ecarts entre la maitrise des procedures de calcul et la maitrise des concepts sous-jacents, en particulier a propos de la moyenne. La diffusion des outils informatiques ouvre de nouvelles procedures inferentielles, conceptuellement plus simples que les procedures traditionnelles. L'analyse des difficultes rencontrees, lors de la pratique de l'analyse des donnees et lors de son enseignement, a conduit a concevoir et developper un logiciel pour le traitement statistique des donnees (ds3). Nous montrons comment il peut etre utiliser dans un environnement d'aprrentissage. Nous cherchons enfin a definir les caracteristiques de nouveaux logiciels statistiques prenant en compte les developpements en cours des moyens informatiques.
