Two periods are compared here: the time between the two world wars and the present time. Lying to the other and lying to oneself are both studied, cf g. Durandin. E. Morin, g. Devereux, j. Fourastie, g. Friedmann inspire the hypothe-ses. According to the representation obtained here, man, today (in france), would not only be more permissive, but, above all, would have a more complex inter-subjective relation, with more psychologism, more subjectivism. He would be more clear-sighted, about himself or the person he loves; and at the same time, show more relativism. Finally, the different evolutions of the social subjects, the greater com-petition, would be a sign of a growing diversification.

On compare la periode de l'entre-deux-guerres et la periode actuelle. On etudie mensonge a autrui et mensonge a soi-meme, cf g. Durandin. Les hypotheses s'inspirent de e. Morin, g. Devereux, j. Fourastie, g. Friedmann. Selon la representation obtenue, il n'y aurait pas seulement augmen-tation de la tolerance, il y aurait surtout complexification du rapport intersubjectif, psychologisation, subjectivation. Il y aurait davantage de lucidite -notamment au sujet de soi ou au sujet de l7etre aime -, mais en meme temps une relativisation plus grande. Enfin, les differences entre les evolutions des divers acteurs sociaux, la concurrence accrue, correspondraient a la representation d'une diver-site croissante.
