The social representation of the child has been studied through the analysis of thirty interviews to a group of nursery-school teachers. The results of the analysis show clearly that the social representation of the child is different from the social representation of the adult. Such difference is marked by a tendency to idealizing the child to the detriment of the adult; besides it seems to be connected with the type of childhood experienced by the individual teacher. Those among the teachers who are fully aware of what happened to them during their childhood and acknowledge its positive and negative aspects value, but do not idealize, the child. Besides they are more prepared than others to contact also the adult who is positively evaluated

La représentation sociale de l'enfant chez un groupe de maîtresses d'école maternelle a été étudiée. La méthode employée a été l'analyse du contenu de trente interviews : par cette analyse une différence entre la représentation sociale de l'enfant et de l'adulte apparaît évidente. Cette diversité est caractérisées par une tendance à l’idéalisation de l'enfant aux dépens de l'adulte et, en outre, elle semble être liée au type d'expérience enfantine vécue par les interviewées. Les enseignantes qui sont conscientes de ce qui s'est passé pendant leur enfance et qui en reconnaissent les aspects positifs et négatifs valorisent mais n'idéalisent pas l'enfant, étant plus disponibles que les autres au contact avec l'adulte aussi, adulte qui est positivement évalué
