To study man's actions leads to probe into the Cartesian dualism. Are we compelled to understand action in the conceptual framework of an opposition between soul and body, between thought and action? So as to explore this question, the author investigates the pathology of action in psychopathic disorders. Drawing on a variety of theories in a multidisciplinary approach, (philosophy, neuropsychology, psychoanalysis, clinical psychology and cognitive psychology), the author develops the ides that behaviour problems in psychopathy is the end result of a general disorganisation of mental functioning. The dynamic balance which maintains the unity of the subject is shattered and the psychopathic subject experiences a fragmentation of his inner experience.

Etudier l'action conduit inéluctablement à interroger le dualisme cartésien. Comment en effet comprendre l'action de l'homme autrement que dans une opposition entre l'âme et le corps, entre le penser et l'agir ? Partant de cette réflexion épistémologique, l'auteur étudie la psychopathologie de l'agir dans la psychopathie. En prenant appui sur un corpus théorique transdisciplinaire (philosophie, neuropsychologie, psychanalyse, psychopathologie clinique et psychologie cognitive), il problématise les troubles du comportement dans la psychopathie comme résultant d'une désorganisation générale du fonctionnement mental. L'équilibre dynamique qui maintient l'unité du sujet se trouve compromise, confrontant le psychopathe à une fragmentation de son expérience interne.
