La fonction paternelle aujourd'hui en France : questions d'actualité et problèmes de théorie

What is paternal function today? The thesis is constitued by a set of theoritical, documentary and clinical research allowing the elaboration of answers to this question. First of all an inventory is drawn up from the practical forms of paternal function in France today. This inventory is linked to the history of the changes of the father institution in the 19th and 20th centuries. About ten practical cases allow us to understand in which terms paternal function and family role are represented by father's words. In conclusion a review accounts for the complexity of the notional field of paternity and for the radical changes which in the past 20 years characterize it. It emphasizes that what is called "changes of the father institution" is also the work of people who, based on their family background make up their own creative work complying with the goethean principle: "what you inherited from your fathers, you use to your own "benefit".

Qu'en est il de la fonction paternelle aujourd'hui. La these est constituée par un ensemble de recherches, théoriques, documentaires et cliniques permettant l'élaboration de réponses à cette question. Tout d'abord un état des lieux est dressé des modalités d'exercice de la fonction paternelle dans la France d'aujourd'hui. Cet état des lieux est relié à l'histoire des transformations de l'institution du père aux 19ème et 20ème siècles. Enfin une dizaine d'études de cas permettent de saisir dans la parole même des pères en quels termes ils se representent fonction paternelle et rôle familial. En conclusion une synthèse rend compte de la complexité du champ notionnel du prix la paternité et des transformations radicales qui depuis 20 ans la caractérisent. Elle souligne que ce qui est nommé "transformations de l' institution du père" est l'oeuvre aussi des sujets qui, à partir de ce qui leur a été transmis par leurs parents font oeuvre créative personnelle, se conformant au principe goetheen: ce que tu as herité de tes pères, fais-en ton propre bien".
