The korean catholic church who has the caracteristics of the reform of the social structure because of the existence of popular church during his first period, has been the the ghetto of the believers because of the hegemony of the institutionnel church. This tendance has continued during the japanese colonial rule. It was aggravated on the process of the nation-state building and the division of the country. It was with the industrial expansion that the church plays an important role in the process of the democratization of the country. This engagement of the korean catholic church resulted from the change of social structure and the apparition of the popular church. The hegemony of the historical bloc was threathened by the apparition of the minjung theology. The minjung theology is ideologic and theologic expression of the protest to the institutionnal church by the popular church and the reestimation of the traditionnal popular culture.

L’église catholique coréenne qui avait les caractéristiques de reformer la structure sociale à cause de l'existence de l'église populaire pendant la première période, était le ghetto des croyantes suites de l'hégémonie de l'église institutionnelle. Cette tendance a continue pendant la domination colonialiste japonaise. Elle a été aggravée pendant le procès de la construction de l'état-nation et de la division du pays. C'était avec l'expansion industrielle que l'église a joué un rôle important dans le procès de la démocratisation du pays. Cet engagement de l'église catholique coréenne est le produit de la transformation de la structure sociale et de l'apparition de l'église populaire. L'hégémonie de bloc historique est menacée par l'apparition de la théologie de Minjung. La théologie de Minjung est l'expression théologico-idéologique de la contestation de l'église institutionnelle par l'église populaire et de la revalorisation de la culture populaire traditionnelle.
