Le mouvement écologiste français : contribution à l'étude des paramètres concourant à l'affirmation d'un mouvement politique

We aim at giving an account of the unitarian strategy of the ecologist movement. The very existence of this movement puzzles the political science. Indeed how is it possible to summarize the plurality of the social, political and individual carrers which constitute the totality of this assembly, an assembly unanimously perceived as homogeneous. There, is the choice : can we deny the ecologist movement its very existence, and then how is it possible to explain the principle of identity that the members acknoledge? or can we pretend that thos political movement exists as a substance, with its own archetypes and representatives. It is therefore pertinent to focus on the historical context, that of may 68 when a new deal of the strategic positions of the political movements could be perceived, new deal which was based on the respect of politics for politics and on the avising of so-called marginal movements. The ecologist' speech is symptomatic, it points out the discrepancy between the "legal" definition of the ecologist and what he really is. Indeed, the ecologist is deprived of a self archetype adapted to the political field he stands in. He is unsure of the nature and the properties of this position. Not only does the ecologist need, in order to define himself and to exist politically, to appeal to large spaces of the political field but he also needs to be constantly moving inside it.

Notre propos est de rendre compte de la strategie unitaire du mouvement ecologiste. L'existence meme de la categorie des ecologistes pose probleme a la science politique. En effet, comment agreger la pluralite des trajectoires sociales, politiques et biographiques constitutives de cet ensemble qui se presente, au regard du sens commun, sous le sceau de l'homogeneite. L'alternative est la suivante : peut-on denier au mouvement ecologiste son existence meme, mais alors comment rendre compte du principe d'identite dans lequel se reconnaissent les adherents? ou bien peut-on pretendre que ce courant politique existe comme substance, avec ses representations et ses representants propres? il est donc pertinent de prendre pour objet d'etude la conjoncture historique, celle de mai soixante-huit, ou l'on assiste a une redistribution des positions strategiques des groupements politiques, s'articulant autour du rejet de la politique politicienne et de l'emergence de groupements pretendument marginaux. Le discours ecologique est symptomatique, il revele le decalage entre la definition de droit et une coordination de fait de l'ecologiste. En effet, demuni d'une representation de soi, ajustee a la position politique qu'il occupe, hesitant sur la nature et les proprietes de cette position, l'ecologiste a besoin, pour se definir et pour exister politiquement, de mobiliser des zones entieres de l'espace politique et de s'y deplacer sans cesse.
