The purpose of this thesis is the analysis of the role played by structured intelligentsia in the rise of Solidarité. What is at stake is those groups of intellectuals that created structured opposition movements such as ROPCIO, RMP, KPN and all above KOR. To be able to understand the origins of Solidarité, requires a deepened study of Gierek's Poland. Therefore the intelligentsia intervened within the conflict opposing society to communist state in order to broaden its role as a mediator. The working class was first and foremost on this battlefield. Accordingly the intelligentsia was purposing to reorganise and reorientate it. So apart from its traditional role of being spokesman of the polish society the intelligentsia had found a new role that is building up social relations inside the communist regime. Different shades of intellectuals opinions are confronting one another on the nation, independence and democracy issues. The KOR as a central group of this opposition favours the idea of increasing organised social pressure so as to accelerate movement to wards reforms. The intelligentsia's basic function is to be the voice of this social unrest. The rise of Solidarity impacted in an ambivalent situation of shared political poxer forcing the same intelligentsia to seek compromise which express itself through the concept of self limited revolution. Therefore Solidarity has simply come to mirror the contradictions of polish society.

L'objet de cette thèse est le rôle joué par l'intelligentsia polonaise dans la naissance de Solidarité. Il s'agit des groupes créés en 1976-78, le ROPCIO, le RMP, la KPN et surtout le KOR. Comprendre les origines de Solidarité nécessite une étude approfondie de la Pologne de Gierek. C'est dans le conflit Société/Etat que l'intelligentsia est intervenue pour développer son rôle de médiation en s'appuyant sur la culture politique polonaise caractérisée par une rupture Nous (la société) Eux (Etat) dans ce conflit l'intelligentsia s'est employée à réorganiser la classe ouvrière. L'intelligentsia y trouve un nouveau rôle, à celui traditionnel de porte-parole, s'ajoute celui de recomposition des liens sociaux dans le régime communiste. L'intelligentsia n'est cependant pas homogène. Des sensibilités différentes s'affrontent sur les questions de nationalisme, indépendance, démocratie et religion. Le KOR, groupe central de l'opposition, développe l'idée de la pression sociale organisée afin d'obtenir des réformes. L'intelligentsia y a comme fonction l'expression du mouvement social. En août 80, la naissance de Solidarité crée une situation de double pouvoir qui oblige l intelligentsia à rechercher un compromis autour de la notion de révolution auto-limitée. Cette volonté aboutit à inscrire dans Solidarité les contradictions fondamentales de la société polonaise et à intégrer Solidarité dans le système politique polonais lui donnant ainsi un rôle de contestation mais aussi d'intégration sociale et politique.
