The trend towards overall integration of the productive machinery, the data system and the organizational scheme with the new and highly automated equipments, justifies the search for general coherence between the technical, the social and the organizational configurations of the productive system, and between the latter and the environment in which they would be implemented. Are the management principles, that have prevailed till now over the modernization of the capital ewuipments, still valid? The aim of this study is to suggest some particular contributions, supported by the analysis of a concrete case study : the project of a full automation of the metro trains driving, being presently carried out by the paris transport authority (r. A. T. P. ). Based on the findings of a depth study of the modes of operation, of the organizational and soco-cultural schemes ruling the r. A. T. P. , Of the specific social relationship and the impacts of the political-administrative control, we have attempted to stress on the socio-technical conditions that have to be brought together in order to improve the overall efficiency.

Le mouvement d'integration des systemes machinique, informationnel et organisationnel dans les nouvelles installations tres automatisees renforce les besoins de coherence entre les configurations technique, sociale, organisationnelle de ces systemes productifs, et entre ces systemes et le contexte dans lequel ils vont devoir s'inscrire dans l'entreprise. On peut alors se demander si les principes qui ont prevalu jusqu'a present en matiere de modernisation des equipements productifs ne doivent pas, tout comme les modeles d'organisation et de fonctionnement des entreprises, tenir compte de c es evolutions. L'ambition de cette these est d'apporter un certain nombre d'eclairages, a partir de l'analyse d'une situ ation concrete, a savoir le projet d'automatisation integrale du mouvement des trains a l'etude actuellement a la r. A. T. P. En s'appuyant sur une analyse detaillee des modes de fonctionnement, des schemas organisationnels et socioculturels coexistant a la r. A. T. P. , Des systemes particuliers de relations sociales et de tutelle politico-administrativ e, nous avons essaye de degager un certain nombre de perspectives en vue d'une conception et d'une insertion performante s de l'aint, dans une organisation qui reste encore globalement, dans ses structures et dans ses pratiques, d'essence taylorienne.
