Whether it concerns the irreversible passing of time or the consequences of legal, political, social, economic or environmental choices, irreversibility is at the heart of human existence as well as a crucial challenge to our contemporary society. The law, by its nature, is a crucial domain for the study of irreversibility. Two paths of study are followed to identify the relationship between irreversibility and the law. Firstly, irreversibility can be understood as an "object of law". In this respect, irreversibility constitutes a phenomenon, wich the law aims to consider and regulate. In the environmental realm, the regulation of irreversibility is of particular importance and in recent years has become a significant challenge. Secondly, irreversibilty can be seen as an "legal object". Studying irreversibility within the juridical domain means looking at it as a complex and multifaceted legal notion. The two approaches serve to draw a clearer picture of a concept that is at the same time abstract and omnipresent in the domain of the law. Juridical irreversibility can be studied from a theoretical or even a philosophical perspective, but also serves as an emerging tool of the law, helping to intervene in factual irreversibilities. In this context, factual environmental irreversibility and juridical irreversilbilty meet within the realm of the law.

Qu 'il s'agisse de l'écoulement irréversible du temps ou des conséquences des choix juridiques, politiques, sociaux, économiques ou environnementaux, l' irréversibilité est au coeur du quotidien de l' homme et des enjeux actuels des sociétés contemporaines. Le droit, par nature, est un cadre privilégié de manifestation de l' irréversibilié. Deux axes d'études sont à retenir afin d' identifier les rapports entre l' irréversibilité et le droit. Tout d' abord, l' irréversibilité peut-être comprise comme " un objet du droit". L' irréversiblité constitue alors un phénomène dont le droit va être amené à se saisir. L' environnement est le domaine de prédilection dans lequel le droit à vocation à réglementer l' irreversibilité. Ces dernières années, il s' agit d'un enjeu juridique primordial. Ensuite, l' irreversiblité en droit peut être entendue comme "un objet de droit", c'est à dire comme une notion juridique à part entière. Ill s'agit de comprendre comment ce phénomène se manifeste juridiquement. L' irréversibilité en droit est multiple et complexe. Ces deux angles d' approche permettent de mieux appréhender une notion à la fois abstraite et omniprésente au sein du droit. L'irreversiblité juridique peut-être étudiée de manière très théorique, voire philosophique mais également comme un nouvel outil du droit permettant d'intervenir sur les irréversiblités factuelles. Ainsi, une boucle se forme entre irréversibilité factuelle environnementale et irréversibilité juridique.
