We intend to study the problem of African unity through its continental institutions since the beginning of the Panafrican mouvement until the most recent developments of African Union towards the Organisation of African Union (OAU). The method chosen was analysis of the problem through historical and geo-political circumstances and study of the juridical constitution of these organizations, in order to value their actions on economical, political and military levels. We chose to give special attention to the crisis of OAU and to the solutions brought by UA.

On s'est proposé d'étudier la question de l'unité africaine à partir de ses institutions, depuis la naissance du mouvement panafricain jusqu'à l'Organisation de l'Union Africaine et aux développements les plus récents de l'Union Africaine. L'approche consiste d'une part à situer la formation et les enjeux de ces institutions par rapport au contexte historique et géo-politique et d'autre part à considérer l'aspect proprement juridique de ces organismes afin d'évaluer leurs actions sur les plans écolnomique, politique et militaire. On s'est particulièrement attaché aux raisons de la crise de l'OUA et aux conditions de résolution de cette crise grâce aux solutions apportées par la nouvelle UA.
