The bangui agreement of march 2,1977, relating to the creation of an african intellectual property organization, constituting a revision of the libreville agreement of september 13,1962, relating to the creation of an african an malagasy industrial property office. The organization is administred by an administrative council composed of one representative from each state. The organization is responsible for implementing and applying the common administrative procedures deriving from a uniform system for the protection of industrial property. For its member states, the organization serves both as the national industrial property service within the meaning of article 12 of the paris convention and as the central patent documentaion and information body. Its undertakes the administrative examination of applications for : patents and utility models, trademarks and service marks, industrial design, trade name and appellation of origin. Since the bangui agreement, the organization is also responsible for the promotion of the copy right and the national office assures the copy right's protection and gestion.

L'accord de bangui du 2 mars 1977, relatif a la creation d'une organisation africaine de la propriete intellectuelle, constitue une revision de l'accord de libreville du 13 septembre 1962, relatif a la creation d'un office africain et malgache de la propriete industrielle. L'organisation est administree par un conseil d'administration compose des representants des etats membres a raison d'un representant par etat. L'organisation est chargee de mettre en oeuvre et d'appliquer les procedures administratives communes decoulant d'un regime uniforme de protection de la propriete industrielle. Elle tientlieu pour chaque etat membre, de service national de la propriete industrielle au sens de l'article 12 de la convention de paris et d'organisme central de documentation et d'information en matiere de brevets d'invention. Elle enregistre les demandes de protection et delivre et publie des titres de protection les brevets d'invention, les modeles d'utilite, les marques defabrique et de services, les dessins et modeles industriels, les noms commerciaux et les appellations d'origine. Depuis la signature de l'accord de bangui, l'organisation est competente pour la protection du droit d'auteur, la gestion revient aux offices nationaux.
