International custom appears to be destabilized under the twofold effect of the diversification of its formal manifestations which is a cause of uncertainty due to its modes of realization ; and of the calling into question of its content which casts doubts on this source of law. However, its important contemporary use must not be ignored. Given this, the durability of international custom's basic characteristics with its adaptation to the evolution of surrounding factors, leads to the strengthening of custom.

La coutume internationale parait destabilisee sous l'effet conjugue de la diversification de ses modes de formalisation qui est porteuse d'incertitudes du fait de ses modalites de realisation, et de la remise en cause de son contenu qui conduit a la mise en doute de cette source du droit. Son instrumentalite contemporaine ne peut cependant etre ignoree. De fait, la perennite des caracteres fondamentaux de la coutume, jointe a son adaptation a l'evolution de son environnement, exprime la realite d'une coutume confortee.
