The Tunisian woman has a particular and advantageous status compared to the other women of the Arab and Moslem world. The historical, geographical, political and religious context in Tunisia has allowed the woman to be gradually regarded as an equal partner in today's society. The Tunisian legislation has regularly allowed her to obtain more rights and especially the right to work. Indeed, in addition to the revolutionary laws promulgated after independence and to the ratification of the International Conventions concerning women's rights, various legislative reforms have been introduced during the last decades in order to reinforce the principle of equality and non-discrimination between men and women in the work place. The Tunisian woman, well protected by these different measures, her right to work well established, has been able to play an important part in the economical life of her country. Although they still have to face a certain discriminations and certain difficulties in the work place and more laws need to be passed to enable them to be wholly integrated into the professional world, Tunisia has brawly enabled its women to be emancipation regardless of the upheaval in its society.

La femme tunisienne a un statut particulier par rapport aux autres femmes des pays arabes et musulmans. Le contexte historique, géographique, politique et même religieux de la Tunisie, lui a permis d'être considérée comme un partenaire à part entière de la société. Sa législation a permis aussi une nette amélioration de ses droits et surtout de son droit au travail. En effet, en plus des codes révolutionnaires promulgués après l'indépendance, des conventions internationales ratifiées, des réformes législatives sont intervenues au cours des dernières décennies, afin de renforcer le principe d'égalité et de non-discrimination. Forte de ces droits et d'un cadre juridique qui lui permet de se défendre, la femme tunisienne a donc pu s'investir dans la vie économique du pays et s'engager dans tous les secteurs professionnels. Bien qu'elle rencontre encore beaucoup de difficultés, de discriminations et qu'il reste encore des d'efforts à faire aussi bien au niveau de la législation que des mentalités pour parvenir à son intégration dans le marché du travail, la Tunisie lui en a ouverte les portes. Son émancipation engendre alors des bouleversements et des changements irréversibles dans la société.
