Le concept de césarisme : une idéologie ?

Appeared in the middle of the nineteenth century the term of caesarism first came to appoint an original political practice, inspired by Julius 'Caesar ancient example then reactualizated by the Bonapartes and characterized by the establishing of an authoritarian system benefiting frompeople' support and the combination of a plurality of legitimities. Introduced in France in 1850 the term of caesarism had had a fast but wild infatuation which confered it a large polysemia. It progressively conceptualized itself according to the theoretical contributions of the followers of the second empire as well as its opponents for finally appointing a full ideology fitted of a real conceptual autonomy relatively to the notion of bonapartism. But after the fall of the regime a decline of the concept was beginning which accentuated itself after the first world war in spite of the permanence of any significative occurences. After the second world war and in particular this last decades that a revival of interest principally historiographical could be noticed. It accompanied itself of a relative consensus about its interpretation and its sphere of application that seems be essentially limitated to the bonapartist empires

Apparu au milieu du XIXème siècle le terme de césarisme est d'abord venu désigner une pratique politique originale inspirée de l'exemple antique de Jules César puis réactualisée par les Bonaparte, et caractérisée par l'instauration d'un régime autoritaire bénéficiant du soutien populaire et l'association d'une pluralité de légitimités. Introduit en France en 1850 le terme de césarisme a connu un développement rapide mais désordonné lui conférant une large polysémie. Il s'est peu à peu conceptualisé au gré des contributions théoriques tant des partisans du second empire que de ses adversaires pour finalement désigner une idéologie à part entière dotée d'une réelle autonomie conceptuelle relativement à la notion de bonapartisme. Mais, à la chute du régime s'amorce un déclin du concept qui s'accentue après la première guerre mondiale et surtout ces dernières décennies un regain d'intérêt principalement histotiographique a pu être observé. Il s'accompagne d'un relatif consensus autour de son interprétation et de son champ d'application qui semble devoir se limiter avant tout aux empires bonapartistes
