Law aims at bringing the largest security possible to vulnerable adults by treating each of their weaknesses. First of all, it takes into consideration their psychological vulnerability by emphasizing the respect of the person, and by assuring the protection of their consent and of their health. Then, it struggles against the financial and social hardships, by often maintaining to their own profit their relations between the public and private persons. Finally, it lessens the consequences of couples' break ups which are the main source of family vulnerability, thus not dedicating the rule of the strongest. Apart from a few exceptions which aim at the common good, the respect of the law of vulnerable adults has generally a prevailing interest when it is opposed with other rights. However, this protection must be improved by a strengthening of their legal capacity so that these adults do not become deprived of their capacity.

Le droit a pour objet d'apporter aux adultes vulnérables la sécurité la plus large possible, en traitant chacune de leurs faiblesses. D'abord, il prend en considération leur vulnérabilité psychologique en mettant l'accent sur le respect de la personne, et en assurant la protection de leur consentement et de leur santé. Ensuite, il lutte contre les vulnérabilités économique et sociale, en régissant souvent à leur profit leurs rapports avec les personnes publiques et les personnes privées. Enfin, il atténue les conséquences des ruptures au sein des couples qui constituent la principale source des vulnérabilités familiales, en ne consacrant pas la loi du plus fort. Hormis quelques exceptions relevant de l'intérêt général, le respect des droits des adultes vulnérables constitue généralement un intérêt prépondérant, lorsqu'il s'oppose à d'autres droits. Cependant, cette protection doit être perfectionnée par un renforcement de leur capacité , afin que ces adultes ne deviennent pas incapables.
