Politiques de l’espace et condition citadine : modèles, pratiques, représentations, résistances à Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso)

This PhD thesis deals with the modes of "being-in-town" in Ouagadougou, capital of Burkina Faso, on the outskirts of the great dynamics of globalization, but which is nonetheless experiencing attempts to bring its urban policy up to standard based on international models. In this respect, I try here to analyze the action of the State on the city, and its confrontation with the practices and representations the inhabitants deploy in their daily life. If this confrontation can be directly politically questionned, the inhabitants often prefer to build their own urban "arts of doing" without getting in a declared resistance against the power, according to infrapolitical tactics. Ultimately, this work questions urban life in Ouagadougou, as a relationship between the urban experience and individual and collective construction as an urban subject.

Cette thèse se propose d’étudier les modes d’ « être-en-ville » à Ouagadougou, capitale du Burkina Faso, en périphérie des grandes dynamiques de la mondialisation, mais qui connaît des tentatives de mise aux normes de sa politique urbaine basée sur des modèles internationaux. L’objectif est d’analyser l’action du pouvoir sur la ville et sa confrontation avec les pratiques et représentations que déploient les habitants dans leur quotidien. Si cette confrontation peut donner lieu à une remise en cause directement politique, les habitants préfèrent souvent construire leurs propres modes de faire l’urbain sans entrer en résistance déclarée contre le pouvoir, selon des tactiques infrapolitiques. In fine, ce travail interroge la citadinité à Ouagadougou, en tant que rapport entre l’expérience citadine et la construction individuelle et collective en tant que sujet urbain.
