A long time, the congolese city has been designed outside the the city dwellers'preoccupations and yearnings. Such a situation can but engender those grave urban problem as difficult integration within the urban area or society as well as an unrefined adaptation when it is not a foolhardy adaptation to life in the city. The study here presented includes a public opinion poll through citizens of both brazzaville and pointe-noire to well grasp the components of the image and use they have of their cities. Those recorded components confirm the fact. Further, they show that they must be taken into account to shape the future of the city in congo.

Longtemps, la grande ville congolaise s'est faite en marge des preoccupations et des aspirations de ceux qui y vivent quotidiennement. De cette situation resultent une difficule integration au sein d'un espace et d'une societe urbaine, et une grossiere adaptation quand ce n'est pas un e adaptation de circonstance a la vie dans la ville. La presente etude, partant d'un sondage d'opinions aupres des citadins de brazzaville et de pointe-noire, a pu cerner les composantes de l'image et de la pratique qu'ils se font d'elles. Cellesci confirment ce constat. Elle montre, en outre, qu'il importe d'en tenir compte pour penser le devenir de la grande ville congolaise.
