The anatomy of mass media is undoubtly an anatomy of the unequalities between the developed north and the under developed south and between the countries of the north and between the south itself. The variety in the degrees of underdevelopement is striking, judging by the diversity of media systems. The media have up to the present failed in their mission of a catlyst for development. These media are difficult to study in eastern europe, and in capitalist countries there are signs of a new internationalisation of the aids and a specialisation of the audience aimed at.

La geographie des medias est sans conteste une geographie des inegalites nord-sud, nord-nord, et plus encore sud-sud. La diversite des tiers-mondes est remarquable a en juger par la variete des systemes mediatiques qu'on y trouve. Les medias jusqu'alors ont failli dans leur mission d'outils de catalyse du developpement. Mais alors qu'ils sont pratiquement impossibles a apprehender en europe de l'est, dans les pays capitalistes, on assiste conjointement a une internationalisation des supports et a une specialisation des publics.
