An apparently medical theme, sea water therapy actually falls within the province of geography because of the elements it makes use of. Indeed, it consists in using the sea (water, seaweeds, marine mud) and marine climates for curative purposes. However each spa is unique. It has climatic features that give it a, specifie bracing effect. An unquestionnable part of health geography, it is original on two accounts. First of all because a real typology is virtually impossible, contrary to traditionnal geography studies. And then, because it is only based on the positive aspects of relationships existing between patients taking the cure and the marine climate. In its development, sea water therapy suffers from not being fully recognized as a therapy. Now, man is increasingly looking for a return to the sea and out of ignorance, he hurts himself by illusing natural elements.

La thalassotherapie, theme apparemment medical, releve en fait de la geographie par les elements dont elle se sert. Il s'agit en effet, de l'utilisation a des fins curatives de la mer ( eau, algues peloides) et des climats marins. Or, chaque station thermale est unique. Elle a des caracteres climatiques qui lui conferent un degre particulier de tonicite. Element indiscutable de la geographie de la sante, elle est cependant originale a double titre. D'abord, contrairement aux etudes geographiques classiques, elle ne permet pas de veritable typologie. Ensuite, elle ne repose que sur l'aspect positif des relations qui unissent le curiste et le climat marin. La thalassotherapie souffre dans son developpement de n'etre pas reconnue comme une therapeutique a part entiere. Or l'homme cherche de plus en plus le retour a la mer, et, par ignorance se fait du tort en se servant mal des elements naturels.
