This study urban geography is about a district in casablanca - the moroccan economic metropolis. The district concerned is that of sidi-othman which is the result of a great urban operation : "the economic network of sidi othman". Sidi othman is located in the south east suburb of casablanca. This part of the city has always been considered as an area politically sensitive because of the presence of a large shanty-town called ben msik. Thus, the economic networks of sidi othman are going to present a true political and social stake in the process of the command of space both by the protectorate and the moroccan independant state. This will is expressed in time through certain aspects such as the appropriation of housing and the administrative cutting up. All this, has engendered a series of upsettings both at the level of the social content of the district and at that of space as well. This evolution has been touched on through a subtle analysis of the inhabitants' experience, their new occupation forms of houses, their new ways of living and their behaviour in space by use of goods and services. Finally, this study highlights the political dimension of the urban making.

Cette etude geographie urbaine concerne un quartier de la metropole economique marocain : casablanca, elle porte sur le quartier de sidi-othman, constitue essentiellement par une grande operation d'habitat : "les trames economiques de sidi-othman". Situe a la peripherie sud-est de casablanca, sidi-othman a toujours ete considere comme un secteur tres sensible politiquement et ce, du fait de la presence d'un des plus grand bidonville de casablanca, celui de ben msik. Ainsi les trames economiques de sidi-othman vont constituer un veritable enjeu politique et social dans la maitrise de l'espace de cette peripherique tant par le protectorat que par l'etat marocain independant. Cette volonte de maitrise de l'espace s'est exprimee dans le temps de differentes facons : appropriation des logements et decoupage administratif. Ceci a entraine une serie de bouleversements tant au niveau dy contenu social du quartier qu'au niveau spatial (nouvelle typologie d'habitat, position du quartier par rapport au reste de la ville). Cette evolution a ete apprehendee au travers d'une analyse fine du vecu et percu des residents du quartier. Cette derniere s'est articulee sur l'analyse des nouvelles formes d'occupation des logements, celle des comportements spatiaux a travers l'utilisation des biens et des services d'usage courant ainsi qu'une definition delimitation du centre de casablanca. De cette etude ressort clairement la dimension socio-politique du fait urbain.
