This thesis seek to understand the institutionalization process where congolese sport is concerned. From a discriminant analysis of football practices, it dismantles the system-both the patent and the latent ones - which rule the congolese sports institution. The results of this study show how congolese sport works according to three different sets of conception and logic : - the religious conception based on the belief in a personal god; - the scientific conception based on the training techniques which enable one to achieve the best possible performances; - the animistic conception which presents two phenomenoms important to congolese sport, the medecine men and juju priests still holding all the power of magic and witchraft. - western logic which sees competition as an object to sports; - congolese logic which grafts inter-ethnic competitions onto sporting competitions; - whereas the marxist-leninist logic enforced by the marxist orientated - political elites rejects both others, thus enabling itself the better to rule over the functioning of congolese sport.

La these tente de comprendre le processus d'institutionnalisation du sport au congo. A partir d'une analyse discriminante des pratiques du foot ball, elle demonte les systemes manifestes et caches qui definissent l'institution sportive congolaise. Les resultats de cette etude demontrent que le sport congolais fonctionne suivant trois conceptions et trois logiques. - la conception religieuse qui s'appuie sur la croyance en un dieu personnel. - la conception scientifique basee sur les techniques d'entrainement pour obtenir les meilleures performances. - la conception animiste qui presente deux phenomenes importantes dans le sport congolais, la sorcellerie et la magie dont le feticheur garde toute la puissance. - la logique occidentale a pour objectif dans le sport : la competition. - dans la logique congolaise il y a greffage des competitions inter ethniques sur les competitions sportives. - quant a la logique marxiste-leniniste imposee par les elites politiques marxisantes, elle rejette les deux precedentes et leur permet de mieux regir le fonctionnement du sport congolais.
