The theme of this research tackles with clinic psychology perspective. It consists in finding out the most individual aspect of representation, taken into account the social and cultural values specific to the environment in which the studied subjects evolve. The objective is to disclose, in the representation, the common and peculiar pictures of mental deficiency and educational practices. The result of this research has confirmed the initial hypothesis, according to which specialized educators have common and peculiar representations. There is, therefore, the plurality of representations ; however this plurality does not prevent from ambivalence. The ambivalence seems to be the principal characteristic of representations, whether these are common or peculiar. It is, consequently, to this idea, which emerges in the works of many others dealing with the topic related to our theme, that our research has led to.

L'objet d'étude est abordé sous l'angle de la psychologie clinique. Il consiste à rechercher ce qu'il y a de plus individuel dans la représentation, compte tenu des valeurs socioculturelles propres au milieu dans lequel évoluent les sujets. L'objectif est de déceler dans la représentation les composantes communes et les composantes singulières des images de la déficience mentale et des pratiques éducatives. Les résultats de recherche confirment l'hypothèse de base selon laquelle il existe des représentations communes et des représentations singulières chez les éducateurs spécialisés. Il y a donc pluralité de représentations. L'ambivalence semble être la caractéristique principale des représentations, qu'elles soient communes ou singulières. C'est donc à cette idée -qui transparaît chez de nombreux auteurs ayant traité de sujets auxquels le nôtre est apparenté- qu'aboutit cette recherche.
