La place du handicap et des étudiants handicapés à l'université : accessibilités et usages en Ile de France et au Québec

The number of disables students entering the university has been increasing regularly for the past 25 years. The university has to adjust to the particular needs of the new population. It must now find solutions for each particular problem, whereas it traditionally concerned with equal treatment all treatment of all students. Thanks to numerous awareness programs, disables students have gained their rightful place within the university. No longer discriminated against, the have become an indication of proper functioning of the institutional system, and their presence is a source of general progress. But to raise the question of handicap leads to the question of accessibility. This concept in multiple begins the process of rephrasing the notion of handicap from its medical context, to viewing it as an inadequacy between individuals and their environment. Generalized in this way, everyone must recognize that it may have to deal with a handicap at some point.

Le nombre d'étudiants handicapés qui accèdent à l'université croît régulièrement depuis 25 ans. L'université s'adapte à ce nouveau public dont les besoins sont particuliers. Soucieuse jusqu'alors d'un traitement indifférencié de la masse estudiantine, elle invente, désormais, des réponses au cas par cas. Par de nombreuses actions de sensibilisation le handicap et les étudiants handicapés ont conquis une place à part entière à l'université. De discriminés ils deviennent révélateurs du fonctionnement institutionnel, et leur présence est à l'origine de progrès pour tous. Mais poser la question du handicap c'est aussi aborder celle de l'accessibilité. Concept multi-sémantique, il contribue à sortir le handicap de son carcan médical pour en faire une inadéquation entre l'individu et son environnement. Ainsi, tout un chacun peut être confronté à une telle expérience et se trouver en situation de handicap.
