Based upon a survery carried out in 1986 among final year secondary school pupils and a "post-survey" among students, this study aims at analysing the scholastic and occupational goals of pupils, the relationship existing between such encountered in their achievement. In the light of the various theories mentioned during the second part of the study concerning orientation, basic principles and the changes which a decision undergoes, as well as the answers of these pupils, an attempt is made to identify the degree of decision, realism and cohesion of their goals, the level of organisation of their interests and of their values, as well as the hierarchical structure of the various personal and outside factofs or criteria which play a role in their choice. Analysis of results also highlights determinant factors in the orientation of youngsters. Profound differences between pupils were seen essentially in relation to sex and the type of secondary school diploma taken, then age, the socioprofessional category of the parents and the establishment attended. Although these variables explain to a considerable extent the differentiation of pupils in the decision taken regarding their future goals and that the pupils formed a relatively homogeneous group with regard to the different variables studied, evidence was found of differences between them which could explain the diversity of individual situations.

A partir d'une enquete effectuee en 1986 aupres d'eleves de classe terminale et d'une "post-enquete" effectuee aupres d'etudiants, l'etude se propose d'analyser les projets scolaires et professionnels des eleves, la relation qui existe entre ceux-ci, les raisons de leur choix et les difficultes qui en entravent la realisation ; a la lumiere des differentes theories evoquees dans la deuxieme partie de l'etude sur l'orientation, les principes de base et l'evolution d'une decision, de realisme et de reponses des eleves, il a ete tente de preciser le degre de decision, de realisme et de coherence de leurs projets, le niveau d'organisation de leurs interets et de leurs valeurs, ainsi que la hierarchisation des differents elements ou criteres personnels et exterieurs qui interviennent dans leur choix. L'analyse des resultats fait ressortir egalement les facteurs determinants dans l'orientation des jeunes. De profondes differences entre les eleves apparaissent essentiellement en fonction de leur sexe et de la section du bac suivi, puis de leur age, la categorie socioprofessionnelle des parents et l'etablissement frequente. Bien que ces variables expliquent en bonne partie la differenciation des eleves dans la decision prise vis a vis de leur projet d'avenir, et que les eleves forment un ensemble relativement homogene suivant les differentes variables etudiees, la recherche fait ressortir des differences entre eux qui pourraient expliquer la diversite des situations individuelles.
