French departments in america, guadeloupe and martinique have established narrow historical links with their home country and so have found themselves engaged with it in the building of europe. So they have been led to negleet their neighbour the caribbeans, mostly english-speaking, when the opening onto europe threatens their traditional economical views. This explains the recent efforts of these two islands to open onto their regional space by exploiting the image of "showcase of europe" they try to cultivate. From the changes in their trade by sea and air, this study aims at reckoning up the recent widening of west indian horizons, and at showing the strong points and the weak points of such a policy.

Departements francais d'amerique, la guadeloupe et la martinique ont noue des relations historiques etroites avec leur metropole et se sont ainsi trouvees engagees avec elle dans la construction europeenne. Elles ont donc ete amenees a negliger leur environnement caraibe, essentiellement anglophone, alors que l'ouverture vers l'europe met en cause leurs schemas economiques traditionnels. D'ou les efforts actuels de ces deux iles pour s'ouvrir sur leur espace regional en exploitant notamment l'image de "vitrine de l'europe" qu'elles essaient de cultiver. A partir des mutations dans leurs echanges maritimes et aeriens, cette etude s'efforce de faire le bilan de cet elargissement recent des horizons antillais et de montrer les points forts et les points faibles d'une telle politique.
