The object of this dissertation is to illuminate, through the study of three products (plate glass, window panes and bottles), the relationship between technical progress and the evolution of prices in the long term. After a brief history of the development of the glass industry before the revolution, in which the constraints, burdens and barriers, but also chances of future development are set forth, the study proceeds with a detailed analysis of the conditions of technical progress from the revolution up to the present (an analysis of the market, of production techniques with relation to constraints from the use of factors and from the market) and ends with the reconstruction of the cost price, that is to say, the quantification of the effects of technical progress on production costs. The high correlation between the decreases in cost price and sales price (in values corrected for monetary phenomena) confirms the influence of technical progress and of its numerous and complex determining factors.

L'objet de cette these est d'eclairer a travers l'etude de trois produits (glace, verres a vitres et bouteilles) la relation entre le progres technique et l'evolution des prix a long terme. Apres un apercu historique du developpement de la verrerie avant la revolution, dans lequel sont recenses les contraintes, pesanteurs et blocages divers, mais aussi les chances de developpement futur, l'etude procede a l'analyse detaillee des conditions du progres technique de la revolution a nos jours (analyse du marche, des techniques de production en relation avec les contraintes d'emploi des facteurs et de marche) et se termine par la reconstitution du prix de revient, c'est-a-dire par la quantification des effets du progres technique sur les couts de production. La forte correlation entre la baisse du prix de revient et du prix de vente (en valeur corrigee des phenomenes monetaires) confirme l'influence du progres technique et de ses determinants nombreux et complexes.
