The aim of this thesis is to determine the impact of the development strategy followed by India since 1947 on its integration inside the world system. The integration is the result of a combination of a combination of unavoidable constraints and strategic choices. The problematic implicitly calls on two types of analysis, the economics of development and the world economy, analysis developed in the introductory chapter. The first part studies the constraints faced by the Indian development strategy namely the weight of the demography and the financing of development. The second part highlights the originality of the development strategy followed: refusal of capitalism and in consequence, choice of democratic socialism, planning and mixed-economy; refusal of dependence, especially for technology and food; and the process of industrialization. Finally, the third part tries to look at the integration of the country inside the world system from every angle: trading integration, technological and productive integration, and financial integration.

Le but de cette thèse est de déterminer l'impact de la stratégie de développement suivie par l'inde depuis 1947 sur son intégration au sein du système mondial. L'intégration est donc le résultat d'un ensemble de contraintes incontournables et de choix stratégiques. La problématique fait implicitement appel à deux types d'analyses, l'économie du développement et l'économie mondiale, analyses développées dans le chapitre introductif. La première partie est destinée a rendre compte des contraintes auxquelles a dû faire face la stratégie indienne de développement, à savoir, le poids de la démographie et le financement du développement. La deuxième partie met en évidence l'originalité de la stratégie de développement mise en œuvre : le refus du capitalisme, avec pour corollaire le choix du socialisme-démocratique, de la planification et de l'économie mixte; le refus de la dépendance notamment en matière de technologie et de suffisance alimentaire; et le processus d'industrialisation. Enfin, la troisième partie cherche à cerner les différents aspects de l'intégration du pays au sein du système mondial : intégration commerciale, intégration productive et technologique, et intégration financière.
