The chiriguano indians who work as "peones" in the farms of southeastern chuquisaca department in bolivia show us a problem : the conservation of the etshnic ideal of the "man without ruler" or iyambae in a situation of explotation where this ideal does not correspond with the social reality. Today, through imaginary, festivities, old and new religions, we can find this ever alive ideal, that we can define as an utopia allowing the chiriguano to affirm their ethnic identity against an adverse reality.

Les chiriguanos qui vivent comme "peones" dans les haciendas du sud-est du departement de chuquisaca en bolivie posent le probleme de la conservation d'un ideal ethnique, celui de "l'homme sans maitre" ou iyambae, dans une situation d'exploitation ou cet ideal ne correspond plus a une realite sociale. A travers l'imaginaire, les fetes, les religions anciennes et nouvelles, on retrouve la traca de cette facon de se penser, toujours vivante, mais definie aujourd'hui comme une utopie qui permet aux chiriguanos d'affirmer leur identite ethnique contre une realite sociale adverse.
