Within ten volomes, the author analyze the works of c. Levi-strauss, g. Balandier, l. A l. Althusser, l. Sebag, m. Godelier, c. Meillassoux, e. Terray, p. P. Rey. . . . . And the reactions they provoqued. He exposes the theoretical discussion and he presents a portrait and an overview of the evolutions ton french anthropology from 1945- to 1960 (its relations to international organizations, to the decolonization, to the public etc. . . ) the bibliography-biography of the authors who are examined in the text constitutes the third volume and althusser's "bibliographie-situee" presents the ideological and political evolution of a part of the young french intellectual generation from 1950-1975. Two volumes compose a repertory of the french anthropology from 1950 to 1970 (teaching, lectures, missions, publications, congress, etc. ); two volumes are indexes of the repertory. Two volumes of annotation try to "encircle" the discipline, with references, various indications, personal opinions, and the biography and bibliography of about two hundred contemporary anthropologists. The index of the text and the notes and the bibliography compose the tenth volume.

En dix volumes l'auteur analyse dans leur developpement chronologique les oeuvres de c. Levi-strauss, g. Balandier, l. Althusser, l. Sebag, m. Godelier, c. Meillassoux e. Terray, p. -p. Rey. . . Et les reactions a celles-ci. Les grands debats theoriques sont exposes. Il donne un portrait statique puis une vue d'ensemble du developpement de l'anthropologie francaise entre 1945 et 1960 (son rapport aux organisations internationales, a la decolonisation, au public etc. . . ), presente une bibliography -biographie des auteurs qui font l'objet d'un chapitre, "la bibliographie situee d'althusser" se veut inclure tout ce qui a ete ecrit sur althusser et elle expose l'evolution ideologico-politique d'une partie de la jeunesse intellectuelle francaise entre 1950 et 1975". Deux volumes composent un "repertoire des actes de l'anthropologie francaise entre 1950 et 1970" (enseignements, missions, publication publications, colloques, etc. . . ). Deux volumes d'indices du repertoire suivents. Deux volumes de "references et notes d'appoints" tentent de cerner la discipline par tous les bouts" ; on y trouve les references, diverses indications, les opinions personnelles de l'auteur et la bibliographie-bibliographie d'environ deux cents ethnologues contemporains. Les indices du texte et des notes et la bibliographie composent un dixieme volume.
