Political anthropology has granted special status to the concepts of territory and power. It is from those points of view that the author analyses two different types of societies : Ochollo, a gamo tribe of Ethiopia, and the french "departement" of Yonne. The Ochollo are a stateless society with a complicated political organization. Residential divisions are governed by assemblies "chaired" by title-holders whose political power is complemented by the ritual power of the sacrificers. In its study of Yonne, m. Abeles points out the principles that link the political and administrative organization of space and establish the centralism so characteristic of a system which, at every level, reproduces the opposition of center and periphery. This approach brings to ligt on one hand the conditions of the production and the transmission of political power, within the networks, and, on the other hand, the modes of linkage or articulation between local levels of politics and the state's administration.

L'anthropologie politique a privilégié les concepts de territoire et de pouvoir. C'est de ce point de vue que l'auteur analyse deux types différents de sociétés : Ochollo, une ethnie gamo d'Ethiopie, et le département francais de l'Yonne. Ochollo est une société sans état avec une organisation politique complexe. On observe une complémentarité entre le pouvoir politique des dignitaires qui président les assemblées et le pouvoir rituel des sacrificateurs. Étudiant le département de l'yonne, M. Abélès montre d'abord quels principes articulent l'organisation politique et administrative de l'espace et le centralisme caractéristique d'un système qui reproduit à chaque niveau l'opposition entre centre et périphérie. La même démarche permet de mettre en evidence d'une part les conditions de production et de transmission du pouvoir politique au sein des réseaux locaux, d'autre part les modes d'articulation entre niveaux politiques locaux et administration centrale.
