With the manuscript of the artist's book, Teriade proclaims the historic bond between literature and art while approaching the history of knowledge. We discover within historic sources the role of the publisher "producer" and "art advisor" and assist in the gradual liberation of the printing norms of the 19th century. The driving force, and common strand in ail of this adventure is "le geste créateur" and in this essence, the script may be considered as an impression or a sign. The fundamental distinction that Teriade introduces with his manuscripts between "graphie culture" (script & portrayal painting) and "visual culture" (photography) is exceptionally prolific and innovative, since he no longer places a separative line between the art of writing and that of image. Instead, he places it, between the hand of the creator and that of the optical device.

A travers le livre de peintre manuscrit, Tériade proclame le lien séculaire qui unit les lettres et les arts, aborde l'histoire de la connaissance. Nous découvrons, à travers les sources, le rôle d'éditeur "producteur" et "conseiller artistique" et assistons à la libération progressive de normes typographiques du XIXe siècle. Le fil conducteur, l'espace commun dans toute cette aventure est le geste créateur ; et dans ce sens l'écriture-trace et l'écriture-signe. La distinction fondamentale que Tériade introduit, avec ses livres manuscrits, entre "culture de la graphè" (écriture et peinture) et "culture visuelle" (photographie) est exceptionnellement féconde et novatrice car elle ne situe plus la ligne de fracture entre les arts de l'écrit d'une part et ceux de l'image d'autre part, mais entre ceux de la main créatrice et ceux du dispositif optique.
