Starting from an empirical investigation in biomedical engineering, this thesis deals with the technological and industrial dynamics of these productive activities. The innovative logic in which these industrial entities are embodied shows an essential convergence going beyond the initial statement of productive, technical, strategic heterogeneities. The organisation of biomedical engineering activities can be approached in terms of network. The thesis intends to define this multiform and debated concept. The network concept appears in industrial economics either from intermediate analysis (filiere, industry, district) or from micro economic analysis (transaction cost theory, hybrid form of organisation). This first theoretical approach emphasises the necessity to embody the network in an intermadiate framework which does not exlude the consistence of the firm as an analytical category for a production economics. Recently, the notion of network has become an explicit research topic as a whole. In total, the contributions and limits of the literature examined in this thesis enable to provide an organisational approach of the network concept. The network organisational mode is then defined through its properties (information, learning, management and technical creation). Its shape and its state provide an initial topographical view point.

Partant d'une investigation empirique dans le domaine du genie biomedical (gbm), cette these traite de la dynamique technologique et industrielle des activites productives correspondantes. Les logiques innovatives dans lesquelles s'inserent ces entites industrielles expriment une convergence essentielle permettant de depasser le constat initial d'heterogeneites productives, techniques, strategiques. . . L'organisation des activites liees au gbm peut s'apprehender en termes de reseau. La demarche de la these s'attache alors a cerner ce concept multiforme, objet de nombreux debats theoriques. La notion de reseau peut etre decelee dans des travaux d'economie industrielle partant de la meso-analyse (filiere, industrie, districts) ou de la microeconomie (theorie des couts de transaction et des formes hybrides d'organisation). Il ressort de cette premiere incursion theorique une necessite d'inscrire le reseau dans un cadre analytique medo-economique qui n'exclut pas pour autant l'apport, pour une economie de la production, de la categorie analytique "firme". Depuis peu, la notion de reseau fait aussi explicitement l'objet, de reflexions a part entiere. L'ensemble des apports et limites des travaux pris en compte dans cette these permet de proposer une lecture organisationnelle de la notion de reseau. Le mode d'organisation en reseau est alors defini a travers ses proprietes (informationnelles, d'apprentissage, de gestion et de creation technique). La forme et l'etat qu'il fait apparaitre autorisent un premier reperage topographique. Enfin, le processus qu'il exprime est caracterise par un certain nombre de principes de fonctionnement et d'evolution dynamique.
