The priest who is separated from his temple becomes the messenger of yhwh in a foreign land, where, contrary to the classical prophetic tradition, he withnesses the revelation of the glory of yhwh. This exilic theophany is a testimony of the presence of yhwh at the side of his people. It is the ultimate proof of his immanence and of his fidelity to the covenant. For ezekiel, it is not so much the place where this revelation occurs that matters, but rather the attachment of yhwh's grace to israel. The announcement of judgement in the prophecy of ezekiel is the evident consequence of the idolatry and social disorder in israel. The function of the prophet is thus defined as a responsability for the life of his compatriots. It is a mission with a double character, a liberating one for he who listens to the warning and heeds it, and a punishing one for he who persists in his perversity. The particularity of ezekiel is his preaching of the liberty and the responsability of the individual before yhwh.

Le pretre eloigne de son temple, devient le messager de yhwh sur une terre etrangere, ou contrairement a la tradition prophetique classique, il assiste a la revelation de la gloire de yhwh. La theophanie exilique est le temoignage de la presence de yhwh aux cotes de son peuple. C'est la preuve ultime de son immanence et de sa fidelite a l'alliance. Pour ezechiel, ce n'est pas tant le lieu de la revelation qui importe, mais plutot l'attachement et la grace de yhwh a israel. L'annonce du jugement dans la prophetie d'ezechiel est la consequence evidente de l'idolatrie et du desordre social en israel. La fonction du prophete se precise ainsi comme une responsabilite de la vie de ses compatriotes. Une mission a double caractere, liberatrice pour celui qui ecoute l'avertissement et prend garde, punitive pour celui qui persite dans la perversite. La particularite d'ezechiel est sa predication de la liberte et de la responsabilite de l'individu devant yhwh. La polemique d'ezechiel est aussi une nouvemme opportunite que yhwh offre a son peuple afin de l'amener a la conversion. Ezechiel est le pere de la teshouvah. Pour lui, la misericorde de yhwh surpasse sa colere (ez. 33. 11).
